One of the greatest things about my new job is that I'm not responsible for absolutely everything. For example today one of the database servers failed spectacularly. It won't even turn on. This happens to be the database server that I use for developing applications. Somebody whose job it is to look after these things was on top of it before I even noticed it was down, and they're getting some new hardware piece from Sun to fix it. Contrast this with my old job where I would have had to notice the problem, diagnose it, spend all night fixing it, buy replacement hardware with my own money and get reimbursed, and then work a full day the next day.
If only I could get someone to fix my vpn access. They've got some contorted way of logging me in and it's broken for my account. I've been trying to get it fixed for two weeks now.
